Gemma Smithson
Advanced Biomedical Scientist – Section Lead for Blood Transfusion RVI
Gemma started her career at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Gateshead where she completed a one year placement to gain practical experience as part of a sandwich degree and graduated from Northumbria University in 2007 with a BSc (Hons) in Biomedical Sciences and went on to work as a HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist. Gemma completed her MSc in Biomedical Sciences on a part-time basis and graduated in 2012. Gemma has also worked at Wythenshawe Hospital in Manchester and has been in the role of Advanced Biomedical Scientist – Section Leader in Blood Transfusion at the Royal Victoria Infirmary, Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals Trust since February 2017.
Gemma is a member of the British Blood Transfusion Society (BBTS) and a Member of the Institute of Biomedical Sciences (MIBMS).
