Kelly graduated from Northumbria University with a BSc in Biomedical Science in 2000 and was employed as a trainee BMS at Newcastle NHS Trust, before obtaining her HCPC registration in Biochemistry in 2001. Kelly graduated from Ulster University with an MCs in Biomedical Science in 2008. She was appointed to a senior position in 2008. Kelly worked at Freeman Hospital as the Special Chemistry Senior BMS between 2008-2016. As of August 2016 she took on the position of Senior BMS in the Newborn Screening Section.
