Emma started her career in 1992, working in Newcastle University as a Trainee Laboratory Technician in Oral Pathology before moving to Cellular Pathology at the Royal Victoria Infirmary in 1996. She gained a first class BSc (Hons) in Biomedical Science in 1998 and then attained her MSc Biomedical Science with Distinction in 2006. She studied the IBMS Certificate of Expert Practice in Quality Management in 2011 and then followed this up with an Implementing Advanced Quality Management course in 2013. Previously the senior in charge of the Immunocytochemistry section, Emma took up the role of Quality Manager in 2015
