What makes us different

Laboratory Medicine is based over two hospital sites – the Royal Victoria Infirmary (RVI) and the Freeman Hospital – and carries out over 11 million tests each year.

All Laboratories are compliant with and accredited by the HTA, MHRA and UKAS accreditation services, dedicated to providing a high quality, cost effective service to :

  • The Newcastle Upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
  • General Practitioners
  • Community Services
  • Other NHS trusts regionally and nationally, as well as some international hospitals
  • A vast array of private clients

The Department of Cellular Pathology includes expertise in Histopathology, Cytology, Neuropathology and Autopsy services. Please note we cannot issue results to patients.

The Newcastle Occupational Health and Wellbeing Service (OHS) is hosted by The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. We deliver occupational health, physiotherapy, counseling and clinical psychology services as part of an outstanding trust to the NHS and other partners. Newcastle OHS can also provide private services to small and medium sized companies in a flexible and professional manner.
