Out of hours service

The Department of Cellular Pathology provides a Consultant out of hours on call service for Transplant retrieval and Neuropathology.

Please note that there is no Cytology and no General histopathology consultant on call services.

A biomedical scientist is available to provide general advice on technical and scientific issues.

Any requirement outside normal working hours must be arranged during the working day with consultants of the appropriate pathology specialist teams who will advise on clinically urgent requests.

Staffing of the Cellular Pathology Department

The Cellular Pathology Department is headed by a Consultant Head of Department and is managed by a Laboratory Manager supported by Operational Managers, Quality Manager, Training Manager and a Health & Safety manager. The different sections of the laboratory are supervised by Advanced Biomedical Scientists

All Cellular Pathology Medical staff are appropriately qualified and are registered with the General Medical Council (GMC).

All Biomedical Scientists are appropriately qualified and are registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).

All staff undertake Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and competencies are frequently assessed.
