Haematology: If advice is required about a haematological problem please see this guidance [LINK] in the first instance. If the query cannot be answered then further queries should be directed to the Advice and Guidance service in the first instance. If help is required with a patient that is currently under our care or known to our service then please write to the appropriate consultant haematologist directly. We aim to reply to all GP Advice and Guidance requests within 48 hours but an answer will often come sooner. If you need urgent or emergency advice that cannot wait then please contact the on call haematology registrar via switchboard (0191 233 6161).

To inform the lab of urgent samples being sent:
It is not necessary to inform the lab if you are sending urgent samples, as long as you write ‘URGENT’ clearly on the request form and envelope (if applicable). If you do still wish to inform the lab, please call Pathology Reception on 0191 213 7190
