SERVICE IMPROVEMENT: ADULT BLOOD CULTURE COLLECTION SYSTEM

From Friday 15^th December we moved to a paired blood culture system for adults. From this time TWO bottles, an aerobic (blue) and anaerobic (purple) bottle, must be used. This is in line with national recommendations. We hope that this change will increase sensitivity and improve the detection of blood stream infections in adults, thereby supporting the Trust’s Sign Up to Sepsis initiative.
